Save The Planet & Save Some Money: Refillable Ink Cartridges

Most of us have a printer at home, and if you're like me you HATE having to buy new ink cartridges.  Not only are they expensive, but they're usually a rip off also.  Here's a few tips I've learned to help save $$$ and help the environment at the same time.

Seperate Ink for Each Color

1)  Buy a printer with separate ink cartridges for each color (black, cyan, magenta and yellow):
Many printers come with a black cartridge and a color cartridge.  If you run out of a single color in the color cartridge, you have to throw the whole thing away and get a new one.  By having separate cartridges you only have to replace the one that's empty.

Each cartridge has a plug  that
can be removed in order to refill.

2)  Buy refillable ink cartridges:
After going through the first cartridge of your new printer, go online to sites such as ebay and look for refillable cartridges.  The cartridges I got for my printer came with refill bottles.  Not only were they filled already, but each refill bottle will fill the cartridge about 3 or 4 times.  I was able to buy 4 refillable cartridges, and a refill bottle for each color for almost the same price as one cartridge would cost at Walmart.

So next time you buy a printer, do your research and make sure it uses seperate ink cartridges for each color vs one cartridge for all three (cyan, magenta and yellow).  Not only can you save some serious cash by ordering refill kits but you'll be throwing away less plastic into landfills.

My printer with refillable cartridges and refill bottles.  I just refilled
the Cyan cartridge and only used 1/4 of the bottle.  4 Cartridges and 4 refill
bottles cost me about the price of 1 cartridge at Walmart.
